Introduction
Navigating the U.S. college admissions process is already complex, but recent political shifts have introduced new challenges for international students. Changing immigration policies, restrictions on education, and limitations on healthcare access can significantly impact student experiences. This guide highlights 60ish of the best U.S. colleges for international students based on their location, academic excellence, student support services, campus safety, financial aid and scholarship opportunities and/or economic mobility.
To ensure a welcoming and secure environment, institutions in states with healthcare or educational restrictions, strict immigration policies, and/or bans on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs were excluded from consideration.
Criteria for Inclusion
Location
Preference was given to colleges in progressive states with:

Institutions were selected based on strong academic reputations, faculty expertise, research opportunities, and global recognition. Rankings, graduation rates, and post-graduation employment outcomes were considered to ensure students receive a high-quality education that translates into career success.

These “UC” schools are included because they offer an excellent education in a state with significant economic opportunity; however, they do not offer financial aid for international students (some may offer limited merit scholarships).
